PotionSella

PotionSella is a game that was created during the Global Game Jam 2021. The player takes control of a little gnome in a magical potion shop. The players needs to get items that customers ask for. They have to  make their quota for the day to keep the shop alive. If customers are being kept waiting to long they drop their order.

Concepting

The very first thing of course that needs to happen during a Jam is the concepting. The theme of the jam was "Lost and Found".
The first concept we came up with was a game where you located ships that have sunk to the bottom of the ocean.
However, we decided to change to another concept, a warehouse type of game. We quickly discovered that this idea was more popular. So we tweaked our concept a bit to fit a fantasy theme. That's where the magical potion shop came from.
A game jam also has a bunch of diversifiers but at the start we didn't decided to use any of them.

Developing

The team for this project consisted ofwas  5 people, including me. We had 1 programmer, 2 artists and 2 designers. I was doing design and programming but I mostly focused on design. Nevertheless, I also did a bunch of coding. The game jam was a lot of fun, and everyone stayed up late into the evening to work on the game. At the end of the jam we were very crunched for time and therefore couldn't playtest and polish the game the way we wanted. Still, we were rated 56th out of all 93 entries.

My participation

One of my personal goals was to take on part of the coding for the project. Coding is something I haven't done much but I wanted to improve my coding skills. I coded a database for the items to be able to spawn. Furthermore, I worked on the sound effects and music for the game. You can listen to the music down here.
